Join Caz, Dan and Stu for a full day of Social Sewing.
Bring your sewing project, and enjoy cutting, stitching, and chatting!
You’ll find a supportive environment for all skill levels and plenty of time during the days to chat, work, laugh and drink coffee. Be inspired by others work, share tips and spark new ideas.
Whether you bring a new pattern and fabric to start a project; a bag of clothes to repair, or a couple of unfinished projects to resurrect, work at your own pace and you are welcome at our Social Sew with no pressure to finish when you hear ‘there’s half an hour left sewers’!
These sessions don’t come with a 'tutor', but you’ll never be stitching solo. Caz, Dan and Stu will be always on hand to offer advice, and if your thread tangles or a project has you scratching your head, there’ll always be friendly sewists nearby with tips, tricks, and plenty of encouragement. It’s a fun, relaxed space to try new things, boost your confidence, and share a few laughs along the way and such a great opportunity to share your love of sewing with so many others who love to make and tailor their own creations!

FAQ’s
• Who are Make and Tailor
Dan and Stu from Series 11 of The Great British Sewing Bee have got together to run some events and this is what they have called themselves.
• What should I expect from the day
A relaxed and friendly space with time to sew at your own pace and chat as much as you want. A chance to chat with fellow sewers and Caz, Dan and Stu about projects, techniques, and of course behind the scenes gossip.
• What are the timings
09.30 Registration until 16.30 Closing.
• Can I get there early
Registration starts at 09.30 and doors will be opened 15 mins before.
• Can I reserve a seat for my friend
It’s a relaxed day, of course you can put your jumper on the chair next to you for your friend.
• What do I have to bring
Bring whatever you need to work on your own project for the day.
• Do I have to bring a Sewing Machine
If the project you want to work on needs it, then yes please. (We may have a spare machine you can use for part of the time, but it isn’t guaranteed)
• Do I have to bring an iron and ironing board
There will be an iron and ironing board available to all so you don’t have to.
• Do I have to bring a cutting mat
If you will be needing to use one, and you have one, please bring it with you so you can use it on your table whenever you want to.
• Will I be taught anything
This isn’t a tutor-lead event so you won’t be formally taught, but we hope you will leave at the end of the day full of ideas, and new tips.
• Is lunch included
Lunch is not included, simply to help manage the costs for the day. Please bring your own packed lunch.
• Can I buy food at the event
We will provide Teas, Coffees and biscuits and pastries. There is no food available to purchase at the venue. There is a local shop a few minutes drive from the venue selling essentials.
• Can I bring my own packed lunch and snacks
Yes
• I’ve never sewn before, can I come
We want to set expectations clearly and as we won’t be specifically tutoring beginner sewers it might be difficult to get the most out of a social sew if you have a project to work on that needs a lot of help.
• Will you be doing other events
We certainly hope to........
• Will you have any sewing supplies, threads/buttons etc
No, we don’t plan to have other supplies available so sewers should bring everything they need.
• Are the tables big enough
We hope so! But do we ever have enough space? Seriously though, they’re pretty big and we plan to let everyone have enough elbow room to work.
• Is there parking
Yes, right outside the door and it’s free.
• How far from the parking to the event space
The closest parking available is at the front of the venue and in the rear main car park is still only a short walk to Birch Hall.
• Is there electric car charging available
Yes, in the rear car park
• Is there disabled parking
Yes
• Should I label my stuff
We think you should, yes. Even with the utmost care we can leave our precious shears on a cutting table or forget which of the 4 x identical rotary cutters are ours! Something to identify your tools etc would be a very good idea.
• I can’t make it on the day, can I give my ticket to a friend
Yes, just drop us an email to makeandtailor@gmail.com to let us know the change of name
